Why did Toei/Toriyama Want to Ruin Vegeta in the Kid Buu Saga Fight?

Vegeta has put the world in dire peril many times due to his delusional narcissism. Most times, he deserves what he gets. However, I thought all of the things that happened to Vegeta during the Kid Buu fight was overkill:

(1) After seeing SSJ3 Goku fight evenly with Kid Buu in a fierce battle, Vegeta decides to take on Kid Buu in Base..... Somehow he thinks it's a good idea to attack a SSj3-tier villain in Base....

(2) Kid Buu is a willing punching bag for SSJ2 Goku but is completely serious for SSJ2 Vegeta.....

(3) Toriyama/Toei want Vegeta to say that Goku is the best even though the only difference is that Goku had the opportunity to achieve SSJ3 in Otherworld... The SSJ2 fight demonstrated that they are equals, save for just SSJ3.

Did any of these bug you?

Yes all of them did bug me except the first one wich I wasent too annoyed at but the third one I almost couldn't beleive what I was hearing the first time watched it.
once upon a time there lived a man, this man had all the awensers to every question man made, however he could not speak, when he awoke one morning he found two men discussing a topic he was all too familiar with so as usual he tried to explain the awenser to them, but they just ignored him and carried on at that momment a box came along and told the man:
"If you really want people to hear your ideas even if you are right to cant just tell them they must serch for it, if you like you can live inside me and people can come and ask me there questions and i shall respond with your awensers"
The man nodded and lived inside the box, people constantly consult the box for awensers but sometimes dont believe it,You know what the mans name was:

1. Vegeta has always been an idiot in that respect, this isn't anything new
2. Kid Boo wasn't remotely serious, he's trolling Vegeta as hard as possible. Not like with Good Boo
3. Vegeta had to sell his soul to Babidi for that to work and is probably less skilled to boot. Goku wasn't going for the kill in the Majin Vegeta fight, if he was, he could have pulled IT spam like he did against Beers and done the Warp Kamehameha.

None of these bug me because Vegeta getting beat up is par for course, it's kind of like Krillin getting owned and Goku unlocking a new power-up. It happens in every saga

What I meant was that Kid Buu actually beat up SSj2 Vegeta, whereas SSJ2 Goku was allowed to land many hits.

They don't really bug me because by this time the Boo arc is a complete mess anyway. You do bring up some valid points however, and I'd like to say something about them:

1) It's in Vegeta's character to do this, because it's proven time and time again that he can only overestimate or underestimate foes.
2) Pure Boo vs SSJ2 Goku is anime-only, correct? Even so, you bring up a pretty good point because, but only because Vegeta has the most demeaning attitude in the entire show and maybe Boo picked up on this.
3) lazer covered my entire opinion on this, so I got nothing to add.

A little bit of final penance to pay while his character growth is peaking, I suppose.

It also serves as a follow-up to his earlier sacrifice against Fat Boo. It shows that Vegeta's become selfless, and is willing to put himself in harm's way for the sake of others.

That should explain it. By the time Vegeta stepped in, the fight was far past that point.

In Toei land, transformations mean little. Just look at those filler battles with base Goku/Vegeta and Super Boo.

And that filler battle that was SSJ Goku and Vegeta vs Gohan-Boo.

And like, all of GT. Particularly hilarious was that part when Trunks decided to fight that super dragon fellow without even using SSJ. And when Goku fought Super #17 without even going SSJ2.

The only explanation I can glean from the narrative is Vegeta's ki wasn't fully restored, so that may have hampered his ability to transform.

Chapter: 515 (DBZ 321), P5.3
Context: after Vegeta says he’ll hold off Boo again, so Goku can prepare the Genki-Dama
Goku: “You’ll sta-stall for time?…Yo-you’ve just been restored to life. Your ki still ain’t full, is it?!”

Akira Toriyama didn't ruin Vegeta. Toei did.

That's debatable. If you'll recall, Vegeta did much better against Pure Boo in the anime than he did in the manga. He was able to land powerful hits and survive some of Boo's stronger onslaughts, which even Boo displayed utter shock over, and held out while being suffocated, smashed around, and electrocuted simultaneously.

He was ended laughably without landing a single blow in the manga.

Toei made Vegeta beat SSJ3 Gotenks and Piccolo at the same time iirc.

Indeed, Toei was very kind to Vegeta by making him actually anger Kid Boo and give the impression he's such a badass, he can survive an angry Kid Boo's hits.

Of course, what actually happened was Boo smiling the entire time and Vegeta not getting back up even once

Yeah cause this definitely ruined Vegeta's image. Posted Image

I think the beat-down he received beforehand made this even more badass and even then I think Vegeta was still able to get some hits in.

As for the "you're the best thing" I thought it was there to show that Vegeta finally settled his difference with Goku and was willing to relax with the rivalry between them.

But yeah Toei logic will drive a person insane. I was saying the same thing about Vegeta fighting in base.

That scene wasn't in the manga. Kid Boo tosses him around for a bit before choking him and Vegeta isn't saying anything and his thoughts are basically "How could Kakarot keep up with him?"

Also, he did land one hit from surprise on Kid Boo, then he tried a ki storm, after that, he landed nothing.

Toei was exceedingly kind to Vegeta compared to the a*** whooping in the manga
